Sustainable Schools
“Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”. The DCSF promotes Sustainable Schools by recognising the unique role schools must play in securing the future for young people. They introduced The National Framework with eight ‘doorways’ audited by the S3 tool through which schools may choose to initiate or extend their sustainable school activity: - Food and drink - Energy and water - Travel and traffic - Purchasing and waste - Buildings and grounds - Inclusion and participation - Local well-being - The global dimension GEMK uses these doorways in schools to look at sustainability from both a local and a global perspective. We will come in to your school and help you fill in S3 and putting place an action plan. Some schools are already working towards becoming sustainable schools. If you would like to join them and receive support from GEMK, please contact us on 01908 505777 or Email: info@gemk.org.uk Click on this link to learn more about Sustainable Schools Project
